I was contacted by Bekah, a publicist at Sub Pop to get some photos of the Metz show at the Pyramid.
Shooting musicians is the most fun I have as a photographer. The summer festivals are something I look forward to all year. I'm often in awe of what musicians do. Attempting to capture moments when music is created can be really exciting.
I love Hermosa Beach and it's surf culture, I lived there for a few years working as an animator in the late 90's. I was back recently and asked a few people to pose for a portrait. I told them not to smile as I felt the moment was more honest.
I was grateful that people donated not only their time, but their willingness to have a stranger take their photo. I found the more unapproachable people seemed to be, the more appreciative they were when asked.
I wondered how much of the enthusiasm I'd experienced from Los Angelenos was attributed to the environment, but I found people to be just as receptive once I got home.
I feel that for the most part, in a spontaneous honest moment, people are quite receptive to having their photo taken.
